چکیده
In this work we shall give a probabilistic interpretation of possibilistic expected value, variance, covariance and correlation. 1 Probability and possibility In probability theory, the dependency between two random variables can be characterized through their joint probability density function. Namely, if X and Y are two random variables with probability density functions fX(x) and fY (y), respectively, then the density function, fX,Y (x, y), of their joint random variable (X,Y ), should satisfy the following properties ∫ R fX,Y (x, t)dt = fX(x), ∫ R fX,Y (t, y)dt = fY (y) for all x, y ∈ R. Furthermore, fX(x) and fY (y) are called the the marginal probability density functions of random variable (X,Y ). X and Y are said to be independent if the relationship fX,Y (x, y) = fX(x)fY (y) holds for all x, y. The expected value of random variable X is defined as

Completeness in Probabilistic Metric Spaces
The idea of probabilistic metric space was introduced by Menger and he showed that probabilistic metric spaces are generalizations of metric spaces. Thus, in this paper, we prove some of the important features and theorems and conclusions that are found in metric spaces. At the beginning of this paper, the distance distribution functions are proposed. These functions are essential in defining p...
متن کاملPossibilistic and stanclard probabilistic semantics of con itional ]knowledge
The authors have proposed in their previous works to view a set of default pieces of information of the form, “generally, from ai deduce pi”, as the family of possibility distributions satisfying constraints expressing that the situations where ai/\Pi is true are more possible than the situations where CXiATpi is true. A representation theorem in terms of this semantics, for default reasoning o...
متن کاملComparing probability measures using possibility theory: A notion of relative peakedness
Deciding whether one probability distribution is more informative (in the sense of representing a less indeterminate situation) than another one is typically done using well-established information measures such as, e.g., the Shannon entropy or other dispersion indices. In contrast, the relative specificity of possibility distributions is evaluated by means of fuzzy set inclusion. In this paper...
متن کاملPractical representations of incomplete probabilistic knowledge
This article deals with the compact representation of incomplete probabilistic knowledge which can be encountered in risk evaluation problems, for instance in environmental studies. Various kinds of knowledge are considered such as expert opinions about characteristics of distributions or poor statistical information. Our approach is based on probability families encoded by possibility distribu...
متن کاملA Correlation Ratio for Possibility Distributions
Generalizing the probabilistic correlation ratio we will introduce a correlation ratio for marginal possibility distributions of joint possibility distributions.
متن کاملProbabilistic View of Occurrence of Large Earthquakes in Iran
In this research seismicity parameters, repeat times and occurrence probability of large earthquakes are estimated for 35 seismic lineaments in Persian plateau and the surrounding area. 628 earthquakes of historical time and present century with MW>5.5 were used for further data analysis. A probabilistic model is used for forecasting future large earthquake occurrences in each chosen lineament....
